November 6, 2012 Eltction Outcome
Colorado’s amendment 64 passed with an estimated 1.28 million votes, 54.8% compared to 45.1%, which received more support than President Obama in the state. The outcome was a far cry from a similar 2006 measure, when Colorado voters rejected legalizing marijuana by 59% to 41%.
Monday, Dec. 10, 2012—Denver, Colorado’s Governor John Hickenlooper signed Executive Order declaring Amendment 64 part of Colorado’s state constitution….thus allowing adults 21 and over to possess up to an ounce of marijuana, or six plants.
The campaign waged against Amendment 64 was led by CRL Associates, a well-known public policy firm. The No on 64 campaign’s most vocal leaders included Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Governor John Hickenlooper, Attorney General John Suthers and former Govs. Bill Owens and Bill Ritter.
